Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging technology delivers a CCTV solution that is fully effective on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year. It is highly effective and can detect people and objects on the darkest of nights and in harsh weather environments, including rain, smoke and light fog. It also enables the monitoring and detection of activity over considerable distances.

Thermal imaging cameras operate without any light produce clear, crisp images revealing the smallest of details. Being able to see in the dark has huge benefits in security applications as intruders are unaware they are being observed.

Thermal imaging CCTV cameras work by identifying the amount of infra red energy given off by objects. The feed displays different temperatures of objects in its field of vision as different colours, allowing an easy visual recognition of a scene in situations where a regular CCTV camera could not operate.

Thermal imaging CCTV systems come in to their own when identifying people within a scene, as the heat given off by a person is usually considerably greater than the surrounding ambient temperature, meaning within a thermal imaging video feed, it is extremely easy to spot somebody, even if they are trying to conceal themselves.

The most frequent use for thermal security cameras is perimeter protection. They are also used extensively to protect large secure installations such as harbour’s, airports, oil refineries, industrial estates and quarries. Due to the versatility of a thermal imaging CCTV system, they have many applications across many industries.

We work with some of the leading suppliers in the industry including 360 Vision Technology – Thermal and FLIR the world’s largest manufacturer of thermal imaging equipment.

Thermal CCTV cameras can offer advantages:

  • Fewer cameras need to be deployed to cover the same area
  • Lower costs incurred for civil works, as reduced need for additional lighting, power and cabling
  • Lighting or infrared illuminators are not required
  • False alarms are reduced to a minimum compared with CCTV monitoring
  • Opportunity for energy savings
