Closed Circuit Television Lighting solutions

Without light and illumination CCTV is completely ineffectual. Lighting is a pre-requisite for ensuring that video footage is effective on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year. Appropriately designed lighting will have a significant impact on CCTV performance.

Illumination, Camera and Lens are essential to any CCTV System. The camera relies on the quantity, quality and distribution of available light as light controls the appearance of the subject.

CCTV cameras have the ability to detect light outside the range of the human eye which allows cameras to be used with both White-Light and also Infra Red in night-time surveillance applications.

Measuring Light

White-Light is measured by the European Standard, LUX. It is measured by the level of illumination produced by one lumen over one square meter and can simply be recorded by using a light meter.

Typical LUX light levels:

Bright sunny day = 10,000 - 100,000 LUX
Street Lighting = 5 LUX
Full Moon = 0.1 LUX

Infra-red is measured by mW per square meter, a statement of energy output from a light source over a given area.
