Fingerprint Readers Set To Take-Off!

Friday, April 15th, 2011

I-Evo, a UK manufacturer of  a new generation of fingerprint readers, is working to ensure that entry to restricted areas at airports is allowed to just authorised personnel.

The I-Evo reader is ideal for Airport Access control as fingerprints are the one form of security that can’t be copied/lost or stolen. Security is paramount, but the system needs to be reliable and allow those who have access rights entry and deny those who don’t.

The world’s leading matching algorithm allows exactly this without jeopardizing or requiring adjustment of tolerance levels. With the ‘brains’ of the unit being a small control board and stored internal of the access point, this prevents access by removal of hardware and shorting of connections – experienced on other products on the market. Unless a new build, an airport will already have a form of Access Control – whether its keypads/Cards or Fobs – therefore the infrastructure is in place.

To replace fully and install a new system would be an immense drain on capital expenditure, but I-Evo allows simple integration into current systems – meaning you only replace the hardware at the access point, and no duplication of databases for access rights.

It is fair to say that many people’s perceptions of biometrics are that they are unreliable or difficult to use. This has been due in a large part to low quality from some of the traditional products.  The I-Evo product has been developed over a number of years and this latest version offers a very high quality and robust solution that can operate in extreme conditions.

In addition to being able to operate in harsh conditions, the company even demonstrates their product working underwater!  The external reader has an IP rating of 65 and an internal thermostat means that it can operate a temperatures as low as -20C. It can also scan a finger print through levels of dust, dirt, water, grease, oil, creams and even some latex gloves. This means that it is suitable for a wide range of business environments.

In addition to providing reliable and secure access control, the product is a very well designed with minimalistic styling, great aesthetics, retro fitment and custom colour option that allows the product to be integrated to the design of the interior of any building.

A Finger Print System – With a Difference

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Access control solutions are continuously evolving and Biometric readers are no exception. Using fingerprint technology vastly improves door entry security and nullifies the risk of cards being passed to third parties.

Early adopters of Biometric readers have sometimes considered them as being unsuitable and they were often considered to be unreliable and slow.  These opinions are set to be dispelled by UK based company, iEvo.

iEvo, has announced the launch of the next generation of biometric reader for use in access systems, which they are claiming will change perception of biometric technology worldwide.

The iEvo system is the result of several years’ research and eighteen months of development. The reader incorporates the latest robust electronics and biometric fingerprint recognition systems and has come about as the result of close consultation with end users, installers and integrators.

The iEvo system integrates with existing card or fob access systems and has been designed to ‘work out of the box’, requiring basic electrical installation skills and minimal maintenance. Among the innovations of the iEvo system is an internal heater that activates when the temperature drops to eight degrees, meaning the unit can operate in temperatures as low as minus twenty degrees Celsius.

The iEvo reader can be manufactured in any colour the end user requires, making it the first biometric reader to appeal to designers and architects. It is totally waterproof and vandal resistant; and can be flush or surface fitted to any interior or exterior surface.

iEvo Director Shaun Oakes says: “The biometric security sector has suffered over the past ten years from early adoption of technology that was not quite fit for purpose, meaning high installation and maintenance costs. This has been the case in Europe, the USA and Asia with the result that biometric technology has not been one hundred percent trusted worldwide. Some years ago we took the decision to commit resources to research with end-users, then to perfecting the technology they required to put their faith back into biometrics. It has been a long road but the end result is a low cost biometric reader with aesthetic appeal, reliability and ease of installation. We believe the iEvo is a world first in this regard”.

The iEvo system is a fingerprint system with a difference; it will scan a finger print through levels of dust, dirt, water, grease, oil, creams and even some latex gloves. The product is continuing to being rolled out in the UK with overseas agents to be appointed later in the year. Installers, security consultants and electrical wholesalers who have adopted the iEvo reader have all been very impressed with the capabilities of this system.
