How To Have A Happy Christmas

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

As you look forward to the Christmas holidays, please remember many criminals regard this time of year as an ideal opportunity to steal from closed business premises.  Please take a few minutes to review our check list and make sure you have a safe Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Perform a thorough security check throughout your premises before locking-up. Switch off lights, computers, photocopiers and other electrical equipment.

Make sure all valuable portable equipment is removed from the site or locked away and remove all cash from the premises, leave till drawers open.  Close blinds and curtains on the ground floor to deter casual thefts.

Makes sure external doors and windows are closed and locked and use a UV marker to identify all of your valuable items. Take with you a copy of the current asset register so that you have to hand information such as model and serial numbers.

Back up your vital data from your computer system and ensure that a full useable copy of your data is securely stored off-site.

If you have staff coming in over the holiday period, ensure that they are familiar with enabling and disabling the alarm systems and know who to contact in case of any issues. Make sure that your key-holder list is up-to-date and if you have an alarm monitoring system, check that the alerts are set-up appropriately and that you have the capability to monitor and respond as needed.

Make sure all perimeter fences, security lighting, gates and locks are in good order. It is also very important to check that your CCTV cameras and recording equipment are all working properly. Finally test both your intruder and fire alarm systems.

In the external area park vehicles securely and do not leave the keys on the premises and keep yards clear of items such as pallets, packing material and scrap metals. Secure any waste bins as they can be used to start fires, or to gain access to the building.

Finally everybody at AlertSystems would like to wish you a very safe and secure Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

The management team at 20 Old Bailey installed Avigilon five megapixel cameras on the exterior of the building to monitor traffic, the car parking, and the main entrance.  The team kept the existing 20 analogue cameras, which were installed throughout the interior of the facility. To integrate the old analogue cameras into the new Avigilon HD Surveillance System, Avigilon Analogue Video Encoders were installed to ensure better performance and image quality. With access from four monitors, the team seamlessly manages the Avigilon HD Surveillance System using Avigilon Control Center Network Video Management software with HD Stream Management and installed four Avigilon HD Network Video Recorders (NVR) to store up to 30 days of continuous surveillance footage.
