GEO Access Control from Salto

Friday, October 29th, 2010

There are several solution to a single problem, that principle is often applicable with technology driven companies and manufacturers. This is because of the fact that every problem encountered may have several solution thus the development of several products which are designed to solve a single problem. The field of security and alert systems industry is not an exemption to this principle, specially so that many security and alert systems companies have been developing security and alert system devices in order to solve particular problems that may concern security. This implies that every security problem may have several solution and such solutions are exhibited by the different products released by the security and alert systems company.

One problem in the field of security that in the field of access control, many access control systems were developed in order to limit the entry and exit of people to and from specific company premises. However, locking mechanism of conventional access control systems may sometimes be easily by-passed by some unscrupulous people prompting security and alert systems manufacturer to develop a new type of access control system. Salto one of the foremost security and alert systems company has developed and recently released to the market the Salto GEO or the Salto Global Electronic Opening. This is an electronic cylinder lock that is designed to be used with doors where the normal escutcheons can’t be fitted. The Salto GEO is integrated with the XS4 platform and considered to be a versatile and cost-effective access control system apart from the fact that it can easily be installed.

The Salto GEO has a virtual network capability and a built-in NFC compatibility. Recognition of access could be recognised by the SALTO GEO through iButtons, ID Carriers, DESFire, Mifare and Mifare Ultralight. Finally the Salto GEO provides both acoustic and optical signalling which emanates from its light ring which can signify authorisation or access. With these features indeed the Salto GEO is an alternative access control system.

Genetec Releases a Network Security Appliance for Systems with Few CCTV cameras

Not all companies can afford a full scale CCTV camera system, that is the integration of different components like digital video recorders, intruder alarms, power on Ethernet among others. Further, not all companies has the capability of building a large network of CCTV cameras that would cover every nook and crannies of the company premises just to ensure total surveillance and protection. However, most devices developed like that of the Network Security appliances were for integration with large scale CCTV camera network, therefore purchasing a Network Security Appliance for a small scale CCTV camera system network would be very impractical but necessary. This makes the purchase of such appliance for the use of only a few CCTV camera impractical and basically downright not cost-efficient. Such inefficiency in terms of cost may hinder prospective clients from purchasing or setting up security systems particularly that of a CCTV camera system.

In order to solve this problem being encountered by small scale business industries Genetec has developed a Network Security Appliance that is powered by Omnicast that is designed specifically for installations with only a few CCTV cameras installed. The Genetec SV-16 is pre-installed with Omnicast and it is designed for CCTV camera systems with sixteen or less IP CCTV Cameras installed. The SV-16 has a 500GB internal storage capability and that it could be expanded through the integration of an external storage device, further, the SV-16 supports all compression formats which is also supported by Omnicast which includes the new compression formats like MJPEG, MPEG4 and the H.264 compression. The Omincast application preinstalled with the SV-16 makes the device open to addition of other hardware that are within the list of devices coming from supported brands and manufacturers, therefore the SV-16 can allow for future expansion of such existing small scale CCTV camera systems.
