Compatibility is one of the biggest issue for companies that are using security systems. Most of the time the security systems that were initially installed are not compatible with the latest security system from other alert system providers, this means that the main determinant for upgrading your system would be the product name or compatibility of which with your existing security systems. Upgrading the security system is a more cost-efficient strategy because of the fact that there is no need to restructure or re-install the whole security system making it cheaper then to utilise or install. However, because of compatibility issues and because of manufacturers’ monopoly of different security system standards the clients spend so much money in installing a new whole security system just to accommodate the different features that a client needs for his security systems.
It is because of this that the Open Network Video Interface Forum was established and currently being developed. The aim of the Open Network Video Interface Forum or ONVIF is to create a global interface standards for network video products. This means that every networked video product will have to conform to the set standards and that such security device, specifically a CCTV camera, must be able to function normally within a hybrid security systems environment, that is, the security systems are developed by different manufacturers. This would therefore allow clients to utilise the features of different security devices in one functioning system.
One of the companies that adheres to the Open Network Video Interface Forum standards is Dallmeier. Dallmeier is one of the advocates of ONVIF allowing client to utilise the advantages of the Dallmeier CCTV camera along with the features of other products or other security systems developed by other companies. Today all Dallmeier IP CCTV cameras are now supporting the ONVIF standards.
