The United States Increases Police Car Video Surveillance

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Most of the Law enforcement agencies and authorities across the United States continue to increase the installment of video surveillance devices in Police cars. Almost forty percent of 45,000 police cars in America are installed with video CCTV cameras. Getting a video surveillance camera installed in police cars is becoming a trend and a prerequisite in the United States. The local authorities and the police not only install CCTV cameras in public strategic areas, roadsides, traffic and establishments, but also in their own police cars. They have seen many benefits of having a camera in their cars that is why they come about in increasing their need for these equipments. Because of this, the US is accounted for more than 80% in the market on having these devices.

According to IMS research, the installation of video surveillance has increased as they have seen the value and benefit that it can bring to the police agencies. The IMS research is a company that provides detailed quality market research to the global electronics industry. They just recently completed the report, The World Market Video Surveillance Equipment 2009 Edition where it is forecasted to increase the video surveillance equipment at an average of 6.5% a year to 2013 in the US. This is regardless to the budget cuts in the federal and state funding from 2009 to 2010. Further details and other relevant topics on the increase of police car video surveillance are located in this report.

Mobile video surveillance had become more common today and you will see them in almost all of the Police cars in every department in the US. One advantage of having a video surveillance in police cars is that it could bring up quality evidences which have water marking or similar verification techniques to ensure that the video was not tampered, another is that it could also help a police officer to defend his conduct against any complaints on him and other means of training and evaluation of a police officer.

Even though the funding for these equipments is expected to slow down the market growth for the next 2 years, the long term outlook has a positive outcome. At present, the United States Police agencies and authorities can apply for a roughly $4 billion in grant funding. Further more, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is expected to provide the financial support for US police agencies. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 just recently signed by President Barack Obama last February 17, 2009 include the federal tax cuts.

Having a security and monitoring device is really an indispensable item despite our economy today. More and more crimes are happening because of the low economy but still, we mange to counter this through the use of our own technology. The devices would greatly help improve the quality of data gathering and investigation of evidences of the police and the authorities. Having these equipments would very much benefit all of us and we would be assured of our safety and security.
